Many students help pay for their education by working for their college or university. Student employees provide valuable support within a school and work in all sorts of positions – food service, administrative support, library assistants, helping run computer labs, and more. These employees must complete training, just like any other employee of the school, so that they are compliant with the law and equipped to do their jobs well and safely.
Campus Answers provides the training student employees need – both for compliance with human resources and for the skills required to do their particular job safely and correctly. We offer courses that cover topics such as data security, processing payments securely, privacy rights, and appropriate work use of internet and email, enabling student workers to handle office and clerical tasks. If students are doing more physical work, we have courses on ergonomics, defensive driving, and slips, trips, and falls
The human resources component of training student workers is no less valuable than practical job skills. It is especially important that student employees understand their rights concerning a workplace free of harassment and discrimination. Because these students have not only pay but also potentially scholarships or tuition coverage attached to their jobs, they may be afraid of the risks involved with speaking up about inappropriate treatment. This can be compounded by college students having limited or no previous work experience, so they may struggle to navigate a workplace environment with confidence. Training student employees is an excellent way to give them the security and knowledge to be a contributing and competent member of the campus workforce.
