Higher education campuses all over the country are more focused than ever on issues of diversity and inclusion. To assist, Campus Answers has brought back Dr. Lisa McBride, Chief Diversity Officer at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, for an hour long webinar.

Dr. McBride, along with Sondra Solovay, Esq., Vice President of Content at Campus Answers, discuss some of the most pressing diversity issues on campus right now including:

1. Transgender Bathroom Bills

Dr. McBride and Sondra address audience questions about encouraging diversity and the recent transgender legislation, specifically a brief history of the issue and the guidance issued by the Department of Justice in the “Dear Colleague” letter released May 13, 2016.

2. Attracting Diverse Candidates

Dr. McBride offers guidance on how listeners can increase diversity in a variety of departments, such as Student Affairs, Faculty Departments, Police Departments, Human Resources, etc., in addition to increasing diversity among students.

3. Responding to Harassment & Bullying

Dr. McBride offers advice to listeners on how they, and higher education campuses, can respond to harassment and bullying when a particular group is targeted in an acute incident—and the danger of ignoring the problem.

About the Presenters

Dr. McBride serves as the Inaugural Chief Diversity Officer at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in Pennsylvania. Since her tenure began at PCOM, Dr. McBride has implemented the President's Diversity Council at PCOM, created and developed a cultural competency training curriculum, developed a phenomenal diversity leadership speaker series, and collaborated with PCOM students to partner with Project Home: an initiative to provide healthcare targeting homeless veterans.

Dr. McBride earned her Doctor of Philosophy (2007) in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and her Master of Science (1987) and Bachelor of Science (1986) in Criminology from Indiana University in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Sondra Solovay, Esq

Sondra Solovay, EsqSondra Solovay, Esq. is the Vice President of Content at Campus Answers. She has been teaching, training and consulting on diversity and discrimination issues for almost 20 years. She has published several books and articles on intersectional issues, with an emphasis on weight and disability discrimination.

She is passionate about eLearning, adult education, and product management. She has significant higher education experience, having served as core faculty at California's New College School of Law, Adjunct Professor of Law at JFK University, and as President of the Faculty Council and Adjunct Professor of Law at San Francisco Law School.
